I knew absolutely nothing of yoga and forced myself to get into it just as a means of finding a hobby that would help both my body and mind. I met Melba in my first yoga class, not as a teacher, but as a student who was to the left of me. I am so grateful she was there to help guide me and reassure me that I was following along correctly. It made my first yoga class much less intimidating and is probably the reason I kept showing up since I am a fairly timid person.
Gentle, Slow Flow/Burn, and All Levels yoga classes I have attended with Melba as my teacher. She is encouraging and supportive throughout her classes, reminding you that the hour you spend with her is your practice, specifically for your body and your needs. I've never experienced an environment where it is so selfless, but it is also okay to be selfish, and it is (for lack of a better term) just awesome. There has not been a time where I felt belittled for not being able to keep up. Even when I was frustrated with myself, Melba reminded me that our bodies are all different, and they are different every day and I should be proud for just showing up. She has said multiple times that if you want to stay in child's pose all class that you are welcome to as this is for you and what you need.
All in all, Melba's yoga classes are filled with positive energy, peace and love. They are rejuvenating to both mind and body, and the energy received in class stays with you the entire day. That energy starts with the teacher, even before class, and she truly does spread light and positivity throughout. You feel how passionate she is about yoga and how much she loves it. It's made me love it and keeps me showing up.
